freely and lightly

The more you keep company with God today, the more moments you’ll live freely and lightly.

“Walk with Me and work with Me -- watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. . . . Keep company with Me, and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-30

“We regard God as an airman regards his parachute; it’s there for emergencies but he hopes he’ll never have to use it.” C. S. Lewis

practice

If you’ve practiced worrying for a long time, not worrying probably will take practice, too.

"[N]ot only in the dust of death, but in the dust of life, there is prepared for you the peace of God. . . .” Handley C. G. Moule

Don’t worry about anything; instead, . . . [t]ell God what you need, and thank Him for all that He has done. Then you will experience His peace. . . .” Philippians 4:6-7

say it out loud

When you appreciate something that somebody is or says or does, it’s usually a good idea to say it out loud.

“The Creator arranged things so that we need each other.” Basil of Caesarea

“[E]ncourage one another daily. . . .” Hebrews 3:13

words and other noise

Do you ever get so used to words and other noise that you forget to let your soul rest?

“Studies have shown that the average person today, surrounded by the cyber world, can only tolerate about 15 seconds of silence.” Archibald Cox

“Return to your rest, my soul. . . .” Psalm 116:7

your time

If your goal today is efficiency, you probably won’t have time for some other things (like listening and mystery and laughter).

“Turning you into an instrument of efficiency.” Android ad

“Be very careful, then, how you live, . . . making the most of your time. . . .” Ephesians 5:15-16

dirt and mess

When forgiving somebody feels like one step forward and ten steps back, it might be because you’re forgetting all the dirt and mess inside you.

“If God forgives us with all the dirt and mess inside of us, then we can forgive others will all the dirt and mess inside of them.” Jean Vanier

“Jesus said, ‘I do not condemn you either.’” John 8:11
