a glimpse of God

When you give somebody a glimpse of the real you (the unedited version) and he is compassionate and gracious, he gives you a glimpse of God.

“The Lord [is] compassionate and gracious. . . ." Ex. 34:6

“You can’t be human in isolation.” Desmond Tutu

living with questions

Living with questions is often a lot harder (and kinder) than answering them.

“[Q]uestions are often more important than answers.” David Benner

“[I]n patience, in kindness. . . .” 2 Corinthians 6:6

a thousand forms of loveliness

If there were a thousand forms of loveliness hidden in today, it would be a shame to miss them.

“For a lack of attention a thousand forms of loveliness elude us everyday.” Evelyn Underhill

“Open my eyes so that I may see. . . .” Psalm 119:18

the sea

It doesn’t much matter how big and good God will always be until you start to realize that you’re not.

“You are the sea.  Although I experience many ups and downs . . . , you remain the same. . . .  O Lord, sea of love and goodness, let me not fear too much the storms and winds of my daily life, and let me know that there is ebb and flow but that the sea remains the sea.  Amen.” Vincent Van Gogh

“[T]he same yesterday, today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8

going off-road

Sometimes going off-road changes you for good.

“We want lives of simple, predictable ease -- smooth, even trails as far as the eye can see -- but God likes to go off-road. . . .  The challenges that make our hearts leap and stomachs churn invariably . . . grant measures of wisdom and joy we would not experience otherwise. . . .” Tony Snow

“Do not let your heart be troubled. . . .  Trust Me.” John 14:1

little by little

There’s a world of difference between trying to write the script yourself and (little by little) gladly giving it up.

“[The hobbit] liked visitors, but he liked to know them before they arrived, and he preferred to ask them himself.” J. R. R. Tolkien

“I have put my life into Your hands.” Psalm 31:5
