As-soon-as is no way to live. It keeps telling you to hurry through what you're doing now, because what really matters is right around the corner. As soon as you finish the breakfast dishes, you can get to your desk and do something important. As soon as the elderly man in front of you at the bank gets out of your way, you can get the rest of your errands done. As soon as your vacation starts, you can enjoy yourself. If you're not careful, as-soon-as can postpone enjoying life forever.
“Earth’s crammed with heaven
And every common bush afire with God;
But only he who sees takes off his shoes.
The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.”
Elizabeth Barrett Browning
