Daniel came to my house while his father was fixing the bathtub drain. He had big, honest brown eyes and a crew cut. I had never met him before, but he told me six important things anyway:
1. I’m very fast. Some people say I’m faster than the fifth graders. I’m definitely faster than the preschoolers and kindergarteners. Time me. See how many seconds it takes me to run to the car and back. Fifteen? Well, I would’ve been faster, but I got snow in my shoes.
2. How old is your dog? Six? That makes me two years older than she is. Dad, could we get a dog like hers? See how quiet it is? Nobody would even know.
3. What are you making? I never saw a square pizza before. Did you just think that up?
4. My Dad’s favorite foods are apples and bananas.
5. My Dad got hurt by an animal when he was little in El Salvador. It was a kind of animal you’ve never heard of.
6. You should see when my Dad makes a muscle. Part of it goes in instead of out.
Today, I will practice being like Daniel--fully alive and completely at home in my Father’s love.
