I forgot

Before Tuesday dawned, I filled it with a whole flock of catastrophes, and then I tried to prepare myself by pre-living each one. In my anxious imagining, I pictured my small self in tight places without help. I forgot grace.

“This future [which we anxiously imagine] is not yet ours; perhaps it never will be. . . . If such things should come to pass, He will give us light and strength according to the need. Why should we desire to meet difficulties prematurely, when we have neither strength nor light as yet provided for them?” Francois Fenelon

Today, if I find myself in tight places, I will practice remembering that all the help I need is abundantly available every single moment. There is no such thing as a future devoid of grace.

“God is . . . abundantly available to help in tight places.” Psalm 46:1
