A few days ago, I went into town to do some errands. When I came back, there were flowers—flowers on the dining room table; flowers in the living room; even flowers on my bedside table. I didn’t ask for the flowers. I didn’t earn the flowers. I didn’t deserve the flowers. They were simply given to me by a friend: gratis, no strings attached . . . like grace.
“[T]he way [grace] always comes: free of charge, no strings attached, on the house. . . . Grace comes free of charge to people who do not deserve it and I am one of those people. . . . I know, more surely than I know anything, that any pang of healing or forgiveness or goodness I have ever felt comes solely from the grace of God.” Philip Yancey
