wide eyes

Twenty-something years ago, I did the same thing every December night.  I bundled up three very little boys, and we made the long trek down the block to see the miracle of a neon Santa on the neighbor’s roof.  Every night, six wide eyes starred up from the sidewalk in wonder.

What if we saw this fresh, new month of December with wide eyes?  What if we refused to entertain all the been-there-done-that thoughts?  What if we asked the One whose birthday we’re celebrating for the gift of wonder?
