it is all gift

When I woke up this morning, there was no water. Yesterday, there was plenty of water. When I turned on the shower, hot water came out of a pipe in the wall. When I did laundry, the washing machine filled up with water. When I did the dishes, hot water came out of the kitchen faucet. When I was thirsty, I grabbed a glass of cold water. When the dogs came home panting from a run, I filled their water bowl. Yesterday, I never gave water a thought. Yesterday, I saw water as a given. Today, I see it as a gift. Tomorrow, I will practice remembering this.

“If you have running water at home, hot water even, and if it is purified for drinking and bathing, be thankful. If you have a bed, a shelter, a book, if you can read the book . . . be thankful. . . . It is all gift. . . .” Br. Curtis Almquist

 “I will give thanks to You . . . and I will sing. . . .” Psalm 18:49
