looking for beauty

When I see my small friend on FaceTime, I say, “Have you gotten cuter?” He laughs. I say, “Let me see. Come a little closer.” He leans toward the camera, stretching his little neck and turning his head from side to side to give me a better view. He knows that I am looking for his beauty, and he likes it.

What if I approached other people that way today? I wonder how different each encounter would be if I were saying inwardly, “Let me look at you more closely. I want to see your beauty.”

“To love someone means to see him as God intended him.” Fyodor Dostoevsky

Father, please open my eyes. Give me sight.

“[A]nd He gave sight to many who were blind.” Luke 7:21
