“Watch over your heart (thoughts, emotions, and will) with all diligence. . . .” Proverbs 4:23
A friend once told me that, whenever she notices herself getting off-track, she halts and asks herself this question: am I hungry (literally or figuratively), angry, lonely, or tired? If any answer is yes, she spends a few minutes practicing gratitude. She uses the alphabet, saying thank-You for something that begins with A, and then for something that begins with B. By the time she gets to E, she has a whole new perspective.
